para 3.6.5.2 Communications
The general procedures in case of communications failure, as specified in Annex 2, are applicable in the Emirates FIR / UIR with the following exceptions:
(I) Radio equipment failure: Aircraft experiencing a radio failure whilst under radar control shall select Mode A Code 7600, and maintain last assigned heading and level for a period of three minutes after which time the general procedures apply as referred to above.
(II) Navigation equipment failure: In the case of aircraft experiencing navigation equipment failure but still capable of maintaining two - way communication with ATC, shall inform ATC of the failure and report altitude and approximate position. ATC may at its discretion authorise the flight to continue. When radar is available it may be used to provide navigational assistance.
If no authorisation to proceed is given by ATC the pilot should leave or avoid Class A - D airspace and areas or dense traffic, and either proceed to an area in which flight can be continued in VMC or; if this is not possible, select a suitable area in which to descend through cloud, fly visually to a suitable aerodrome and land as soon as practicable.
Note: Before carrying out the above instructions the pilot should consult ATC, who may assist with instructions or advice. Additionally the latest meteorological information and terrain clearance should be taken into consideration.
