Air Accident Investigation

  • Appoint the investigator-in-charge to lead investigations into civil aircraft accidents/incidents that occur inside the UAE or investigations delegated by foreign States.
  • Appoint accredited representatives for participation in investigations into accidents/incidents conducted by other States.
  • Develop and manage systems for maintaining the investigation tools, equipment, software, and technology appropriate for different accident scales and scenarios.
  • Develop and manage systems for maintaining optimal investigators’ competencies in line with the current and future investigation needs.
  • Establish response and readiness plans and continuously evaluate their effectiveness through full-scale and partial investigation drills and exercises.
  • Maintain the air accident and incident investigations database in line with the ICAO requirements and the SSP data structure.
  • Prepare investigation reports in accordance with the policies, processes, and procedures, and develop appropriate safety recommendations.
  • Develop and manage systems for regular review and improvement of investigation processes and procedures, incorporating lessons learned.
  • Develop and manage accident/incident timely response systems in line with the national emergency response plans.
  • Manage the investigation contingency plan considering the business continuity plan and utilizing loaned investigation equipment and seconded human resources.
  • Conduct joint investigations into accidents/incidents involving civil-military aircraft or civil aircraft-space object.
  • Share lessons learned with stakeholders through the sector’s education programs and safety promotion initiatives.
