  • Institute and conduct investigations into civil aircraft accidents/incidents* that occur inside the UAE.
  • Participate on behalf of the UAE Federal Government in investigations conducted by other States for civil aircraft accidents/incidents that occur outside the UAE when a UAE operator or aircraft is involved.
  • Participate in civil-military joint investigation teams for conducting investigations into accidents/incidents that involve civil-military operations.
  • Conduct investigations into civil aircraft accidents/incidents that occur outside the UAE in case an official delegation request is received from the State responsible for conducting the investigation in accordance with Annex 13 to the Chicago Convention.
  • Conduct investigations into state (search and rescue, VIP operations, etc.) aircraft accidents/serious incidents, in case of official delegation request received from the UAE responsible authority.
  • Conduct special investigations into accidents/serious incidents involving new technology operations, light sport activities (LSA), and recreational flying.
  • Publish aircraft accidents/incidents investigation reports, aviation safety studies, alerts, bulletins, and periodic performance reports to the aviation industry and the public.
  • Develop regulatory framework for aircraft accident/incident investigation and assistance plan for aircraft accident victims and families, and publish guidance material for the aviation industry.
  • Develop and manage systems for assuring full conformance with the Standards and adherence to the Recommended Practices incorporated in Annex 13 to the Chicago Convention.
  • Develop and manage aircraft accident/incident investigation education programs and safety promotion initiatives to all the sector's stakeholders.
  • Maintain strong relations with the national and international stakeholders and assume a strategic influential role at the regional and international platforms through recognized soft power strategies in aviation safety and aircraft accident investigation.
  • Establish and maintain an effective role within the state safety program (SSP), and provide and implement appropriate initiatives.

*Note – For simplicity, whenever the term “incident” is mentioned, it shall cover both “serious incidents and incidents”.
