UPM is the face of the UAE aviation industry in international aviation. It ensures that UAE aviation sector interests are protected and represented. Although UPM is a unit within GCAA, and one of its tasks is to serve as a communication channel through which GCAA units communicate with ICAO and reflect their input and comments, UPM has many other roles—from diplomatic to technical.
UAE Permanent Representative to ICAO:
- Strengthen the UAE's engagement in ICAO decision-making, protecting it's global leadership position, promoting UAE's interests, and representing UAE in committees.
- Identify and pursue international cooperation opportunities within ICAO, and act as key player in the aviation industry and with ICAO member states.
- Facilitate knowledge exchange between ICAO and GCAA sectors to ensure UAE's aviation industry remains competitive.
- Reinforce UAE's role as a key player in ICAO, maintain membership in the ICAO Council, and represent ACAO (if requested) at ICAO.
- Manage and strengthen relationships with ICAO, engage with the ICAO Top Management, liaise with GCAA technical focal points, and attend ICAO meetings.
- Manage events for the UAE Permanent Mission to ICAO (UPM) to raise the UAE profile and visibility within the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) international aviation community.
- Represent UAE in ICAO Council and other relevant bodies, and coordinate with GCAA technical focal points.
- Advocate for UAE's aviation industry interests at the international level and safeguard UAE's aviation industry through deep involvement in ICAO panel discussions and working groups.
